“What people want is a mayor that understands finance and knows that we can be that aspiration of a city that leads the nation as opposed to this minimalist government that we have today,” said Stringer.

Stringer ran against Adams in the Democratic primary for mayor in 2021. He finished fifth on the first ballot , and his standing did not improve via ranked-choice voting. His campaign was marred by allegations of sexual misconduct.

Jean Kim alleged Stringer groped her without consent two decades ago, when he was a member of the state Assembly and she was a campaign volunteer. Stringer denied the allegations, saying he and Kim had a brief, consensual relationship .
