Inset: Marisa Galloway (GoFundMe). Background: Galloway on surveillance footage shortly before her death (WPIX).

A terminally ill woman fatally shot her former daughter-in-law and then herself in broad daylight, say cops in New York City.

The violence was over custody of a 4-year-old that the victim, Marisa Galloway, 45, shared with the son of the suspect, Kathleen Leigh, 65.

According to cops , Galloway — reportedly a special education teacher , avid runner, and longtime track coach for Fordham University — was seen on surveillance footage putting her younger child, a 1-year-old girl, in the backseat of a white Honda Civic on Friday morning. This was on East 88th Street in the Upper East Side neighborhood, a mere half-block from the mayor’s Gracie Mansion.

As Galloway was putting a stroller in the back, Leigh, a retired probation officer who had been living with family in the area while fighting terminal cancer, allegedly walked up to her and shot her in the head. Then, when Galloway was on the ground, Leigh shot her in the lower back, and then shot herself, officers said, citing surveillance footage.

      The 1-year-old was physically unharmed.

Sources said Leigh had a note stating “For Police” in her pants, though the contents of the letter were unclear, according to The New York Post .

In a press conference on Friday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny noted that police had previously taken five domestic incident reports, and there were also two complaint reports, but none ended in an arrest. Those allegations were reportedly against Galloway, but the two complaint reports were reportedly determined to be unfounded.

“She always talked about the fact that she had a former husband that was harassing the hell out of her because I had child services at my door one evening asking if I had ever heard any problems next door,” one of her neighbors, Meryl Feidelman, t0ld the Post .

“She took away the child’s mother in order to make her son happy … it’s shocking,” a law-enforcement source told the Post. “I’ve seen a lot of s–t but this is biblical s–t.”

“Marisa Galloway touched everyone she met. Her kindness, generosity, and love were unparalleled,” stated a GoFundMe campaign , which described her as a devoted mother to her two children. “Marisa’s untimely passing will leave a void in all of our lives. But her memory will live on in her daughters and in all of our hearts.”
