NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — You don’t have to be Frank Sinatra to be a member of this “Rat Pack.”

Mayor Eric Adams and rat czar Kathleen Corradi unveiled the volunteer opportunity on Sunday, offering anti-rodent activists a position in New York City’s ongoing War on Rats.

Rat Pack members will “be deputized to educate, engage, and take action on all things rat mitigation” after participating in three requirements.

    1. Those interested will have to attend a Department of Health Rat Academy training , a two-hour course to learn about safe and effective rat prevention in the home and community.

    2. Aspiring Rat Pack members will then go on a Rat Walk to “uncover the world of urban rats,” learning about the relationship between built environments, humans and rats.

    3. Finally, those interested must participate in a NYC Service volunteer project.

As Adams said, completing these three steps is “All you have to do to become a member, to be an official New York City Rat Pack member, and get the swag, the hat, this t-shirt to prove it, and the confidence to go after those pesky critters.”

Those who go through all the steps will receive either a Rat Pack t-shirt or hat with their certification.

Rat sightings citywide have gone down in 12 of the last 13 months, and the city will reach 70% containerized garbage by November, the mayor said, steps in the right direction for NYC to become “the least rat-friendly city in America.”
