If there is anything obvious about Drake, it is that he loves to troll even while he is being relentlessly clowned after losing the rap beef to Kendrick Lamar. Thus, it came as no shock that he reposted his doppelgänger performing “ Hotline Bling ” this weekend and referenced lyric from Lamar’s hit diss track “ Not Like Us .”

“Fake Drake,” equipped with the same cornrows, beard, and skin tone as the original, has been making his rounds around NYC over the last year; he went as far as to make an appearance at a Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR-themed party titled Saturday Night Interlude in April. This past weekend, he found himself in the middle of a boxing ring performing Drizzy’s 2015 hit and doing the signature dances that the 6 God showed off in the music video.

The Toronto superstar caught wind of the performance and gave his lookalike a repost on his Instagram story. In the caption, he wrote “Sometimes you gotta pop out,” a shortened version of K. Dot’s popular line from “Not Like Us” where he raps, “Sometimes you gotta pop out and show ni**as/ Certified boogeyman, I’m the one that up the score with ’em.”

While the “fake Drake” continues adding to his legacy in New York City, the real Drake continues to churn out music to fulfill his “ summer vibes ” promise. This past weekend, he appeared twice on his good friend Gordo’s album DIAMANTE and revived the house music energy from his 2022 album Honestly, Nevermind .

The first track, “Sideways,” was previewed during a Brooklyn Mirage DJ set earlier this month and circulated online to a positive reception from fans. The second song, “Healing,” was originally a hidden song on the album’s tracklist before the Nicaraguan-American DJ decided to let fans know they’d be getting two songs from the five-time Grammy winner.

These tracks followed his two appearances on Camila Cabello’s June album C, XOXO . He delivered Pop-Reggaeton energy on their duet “Hot Uptown” and then a signature interlude on “Uuugly.” As for his recent opponent Kendrick Lamar, the Compton artist has been coasting off of the success of his once No. 1 song “Not Like Us.” Lamar released the long-awaited music video on July 4 but has otherwise been quiet.
