Broadway Withstands NYC’s Summer Heat As Ticket Buyers Fill 96% Of Available Seats

Broadway business held steady last week as New York City heads into the hottest dog days of summer. For the week ending July 28, a full 23 of the 25 Broadway productions filled at least 90% of their seats, with eight of those selling out completely.

In all, the 25 shows last week grossed $31,287,760, about even with both the previous week and the same period last year. Attendance of 240,301 was down a small 4% from the previous week and 3% year-over-year. About 96% of all available seats were filled last week, with an average ticket price of $130.20.

The productions exceeding the 90% capacity mark (some considerably) were & Juliet, Aladdin, Back to the Future, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Illinoise, Job, MJ, Six, Suffs, The Book of Mormon, The Great Gatsby, The Lion King, The Notebook, The Wiz , and, hitting the 100% mark, Hadestown, Hamilton, Hell’s Kitchen, Moulin Rouge, Oh, Mary!, Stereophonic, The Outsiders, and Wicked . Only Water for Elephants and Chicago fell short of 90%.

Productions grossing more than $1 million for the week were Aladdin, Back To The Future, Cabaret, Hamilton ( $2,021,549 ), Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hell’s Kitchen, MJ, Moulin Rouge, Oh, Mary!, The Great Gatsby, The Lion King ( $2,629,846 for 9 performances), The Outsiders, The Wiz, and Wicked ( $2,266,369 ).

Job , the new Max Wolf Friedlich play starring Peter Friedman and Sydney Lemmon opening tonight at the Hayes, filled 95% of its seats during its final full week of previews, grossing $319,623.

'The Queen Of Versailles', Starring Kristin Chenoweth & F. Murray Abraham, Sets Broadway Bow - Update

Shows entering their final weeks are Illinoise (closing August 10) and The Wiz (August 18).

Season to date, Broadway, in the 10th week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $338,651,345, up 6% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 2,682,770 up about 3%.
