Dublin restaurant full of 70s New York nostalgia serves 'absolutely delicious' pizzas

If you're American and in Dublin, you may be looking to experience a slice of home - and we mean that in the most literal sense. If so, Gotham Cafe is the place for you .

The US-inspired restaurant has some delicious American-style food in a very cosy environment, with outdoor seating for these sunny Irish evenings.

As explained by Jackie Keating, owner of Gotham: "The name Gotham is an old literary term for New York City - We just loved the name and it still reminds us of those days in New York and the buzz of the city. We also wanted to differentiate ourselves from other Italian pizza/pasta restaurants in Dublin - our influences were American rather than Italian."

Myself and my partner took a trip into Dublin's city center to try Gotham out recently on a sunny evening, and the experience was as good as we could have hoped.

My partner is a coeliac, and we didn't look up any of the allergen info before attending. What we found upon arrival was a truly pleasant surprise.

All pizzas could be made on a gluten-free base, while the starter menu had calamari and arancini that coeliacs were able to eat. While many Irish restaurants seem to be making things more difficult for coeliacs, this was such a nice surprise, and she loved her first-ever portion of arancini.

For the main courses, we both had a pizza while splitting a portion of fries. In keeping with the New York theme, I ordered a Midtown pizza, while my partner opted for a Bronx. Both of the pizzas were absolutely delicious, while the fries could have done with being a small bit crispier.

The service was brilliant and anything we asked for was brought to us within moments, making the entire experience really pleasant.

In terms of the restaurant's overall vibe, it is certainly different to most of the other food spots in Dublin. The walls are covered with Rolling Stone magazine covers with celebrities spanning decades, which makes for interesting talking points during your meal.

Keating said: "The Rolling Stone covers are the owner’s personal collection dating back from the 70’s onwards. The idea is nostalgia and a love of music - customers love to browse the walls sharing memories. Plus we have great playlists and thousands of CDs in the office from pre-Spotify times."

If you're in Dublin and looking for a bite to eat and a trip down memory lane - Gotham Cafe is the place for you.
