HEAT ADVISORY: Temps will return to the 90s in NYC to start August, as storms brew for the weekend

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A heat advisory was issued for New York City and surrounding suburbs on Wednesday, with temps set to return to the 90s to kick off August amid a rising chance of storms.

The heat advisory went into effect Wednesday afternoon and will last until at least Thursday night. The alert covers a large swath of the area, including all five boroughs of NYC, as well as much of North Jersey and Nassau County.

While Wednesday’s high in Central Park is expected to be just shy of 90 degrees, highs are forecasted to reach 93 on Thursday and 91 on Friday.

If the mercury manages to hit 90 for a third day in a row on Saturday, it will be the city’s fourth official heat wave this summer, following two in July and one in late June.

Regardless, it will be a hot and humid end to the week, with RealFeels near 100 on Thursday and Friday under partly sunny skies, according to AccuWeather.

The muggy weather will be accompanied by the threat of afternoon storms every day through Sunday. The heaviest storms are most likely on Saturday and Sunday, when flooding downpours and damaging winds are possible.
