WynnBET, the premier online sportsbook and casino, officially stopped accepting bets in New York on Monday. The operator’s website now lists the Empire State among the 10 jurisdictions in which the platform has “closed operations.”

WynnBET gamblers can access their accounts until 11 a.m. on Aug. 29

According to the site, WynnBET patrons can still access their accounts until 11 a.m. on Aug. 29. By that time, gamblers should withdraw all funds.

In August 2023, Wynn announced it was shutting down sports betting and online casino operations in eight jurisdictions. However, New York remained operational but “under review,” per the press release.

Wynn Resorts CFO Julie Cameron-Doe said then that “the dearth of iGaming legislation and the presence of numerous investment opportunities … have led us to the decision to curtail our capital investment in WynnBet.”

“In light of the continued requirement for outsized marketing spend through user acquisition and promotions in online sports betting, we believe there are higher and better uses of capital deployment for Wynn Resorts shareholders,” added Cameron-Doe.

WynnBET first launched in New York in February 2022. The sportsbook accepted $233.1 million in bets during that period, which ranks seventh among the nine platforms. It’s $11.3 million in sports betting revenue ranks eighth.

PENN Entertainment reached an agreement with Wynn Interactive Holdings earlier this year to acquire the company’s New York sports betting license

In February, PENN Entertainment also announced that it reached an agreement with Wynn Interactive Holdings to acquire the company’s sports wagering license in the state. ESPN BET New York is expected to go live by fall.

Although Wynn is currently no longer doing business in the Empire State, in addition to Related Companies, the company is planning to develop a Wynn New York City downstate casino.

Since three licenses remain available, Wynn executives have expressed their desire to obtain one. If the company is awarded one, according to Related Companies CEO Jeff Blau, it could “provide generational benefits” to the state.

Along with New York, WynnBET has also closed mobile operations in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Mobile and retail sports betting remains available at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore at Wynn Las Vegas in Nevada. Retail sports betting was available at Encore Boston Harbor in Massachusetts.

Now, both retail and mobile betting are no longer accessible to gamblers in the Bay State. Additionally, WynnBET operates mobile casino gaming in Michigan under the ownership of Caesars.

The company has yet to add Massachusetts to its “closed operations” list.
