The House Judiciary Committee launched an investigation Thursday into the daughter of the judge presiding over former President Donald Trump's case in New York , citing her marketing work for prominent Democrats — including Trump's 2024 opponent.

Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Loren Merchan in a letter to provide numerous documents and communications related to her work for Authentic Campaigns, a top Democratic marketing firm that has engaged in lucrative business with Trump's top political rivals.

"Experts have raised substantial concerns with Judge [Juan] Merchan, your father, refusing to recuse himself from President Trump’s case despite your work on behalf of President Trump’s political adversaries and the financial benefit that your firm, Authentic Campaigns Inc., could receive from the prosecution and conviction," Jordan wrote.

The chairman asked Loren Merchan for contracts or invoices her firm had for marketing work it performed for the campaigns of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, and the Democratic National Committee.

He gave Loren Merchan a deadline of Aug. 8 to provide the requested materials.

The committee's inquiry into Loren Merchan comes one day after Trump indicated in a court filing that he would ask Juan Merchan for a third time to recuse himself from the hush money case because of the judge's daughter's line of work.

Trump was convicted of falsifying business records in May, but the judge must still review challenges Trump has raised to the verdict, as well as sentence Trump in September.

Juan Merchan twice denied Trump's recusal requests, saying that an independent panel determined Loren Merchan's work for Democratic campaigns did not create a conflict of interest. Trump is expected to argue, however, that Loren Merchan has a "long-standing relationship" with Harris that creates new grounds for recusal.

Jordan, for his part, cited several of Authentic Campaigns clients in recent years, including Biden, Harris, and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Federal Election Commission data shows Authentic Campaigns has seen a lucrative 2024 election cycle due in part to Schiff, a Senate candidate and one of Trump's most vocal critics.

Schiff’s Senate campaign has since the beginning of last year paid Authentic Campaigns more than $11 million for advertising services, according to the data .

Jordan noted in his letter how Schiff explicitly advertised off of Trump’s case in Manhattan last year when District Attorney Alvin Bragg first brought charges against the former president.

"At a minimum, there is a perception that you and Authentic Campaigns could profit considerably from President Trump’s prosecution in a forum overseen by your father," the chairman wrote.

The Washingon Examiner reached out to Loren Merchan for comment.
