    Here’s how much more chocolate lovers in NYC are paying for the treat than the rest of the country

    A New Yorker’s love for chocolate can be bittersweet.

    Everyone loves chocolate, but with global cocoa supplies being down, people are spending even more than usual on their favorite sweet treat — and New Yorkers are paying the most.

    In NYC, chocoholics are paying 20.66% above the rest of the country, according to a new report from consumer resource site CouponBirds .

    The team at CouponBirds looked at the average price of the most popular chocolate items at Target stores across the country using data from Instacart. They compared the average price per ounce in each city to the national average to reveal where chocolate products are most and least expensive.

    While chocolate is the most expensive in New York City, Hawaii is the most expensive state, with the cost being 12.90% higher than the national average of $0.75 per ounce.

    New York State is the second-most expensive state with chocolate prices being 10.70% higher than the national average.

    Meanwhile, chocolate is at its cheapest in Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine, where it’s 3.64% less than the national average.

    Regarding specific chocolate products, Hershey’s milk chocolate has a 23.11% price premium compared to the national average in New York City, and Hershey’s milk chocolate Kisses are 23.33% higher in Yonkers and 19.80% higher in Manhattan.

    M&Ms are 23.76% higher in Yonkers and 20.22% higher in New York City.

    Dove milk chocolate Promises cost 30.62% more in both New York City and Yonkers, and snack-sized Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are 22.49% higher than the national average in NYC.
