Kyrie Irving underwent surgery on his hand but the Mavericks aren’t concerned that the superstar will miss time during training camp.
Dallas announced Tuesday that Irving underwent a procedure to repair his broken left hand, an injury he sustained earlier this month while he was training.
ESPN reported that a source had “expressed optimism” that Irving will be healed in time to take part in training camp when it begins in a little less than three months.
“Tribe, Thank you for all the messages and prayers,” the Mavericks star wrote. “GOD truly knew that I needed to take a break from Basketball after the long season and give myself some time to heal. I am in love with getting better at my craft, but now I must rest and recover.”
The former Net averaged 25.6 points, five rebounds and 5.2 assists per game in his first full year in Dallas.
During the playoffs, he averaged 22.2 points and 5.1 assists per game during the run to the Finals.
Irving previously had surgery on his right hand in 2012 before he played his second season on the Cavaliers after he broke it hitting it on a wall during an NBA Summer League practice.
The Mavericks have also had other players dealing with injuries following the playoff run, including Luka Doncic, who has dealt with a right knee issue and a thoracic contusion.
