Reflecting on the end of her marriage in a new interview with Bustle , the reality TV alum — who wed Cutler in 2013 and shares three kids with the ex-quarterback — spoke about how her life has evolved since turning the page on the relationship.
“[The divorce] was when I let go of a lot of control, and I let life unfold before me instead of trying to plan everything and control everything. I’m way happier and I’m way more at peace in my life, so it’s working for me,” Cavallari, 37, said.
Cavallari, who gained notoriety as a teen on MTV’s beloved reality series “Laguna Beach,” gave viewers a glimpse of her marriage to Cutler, 41, on the E! program “Very Cavallari,” which ran for three seasons from July 2018 to March 2020.
Weeks after the show aired its final episode, the founder of Uncommon James jewelry confirmed she and Cutler were going their separate ways.
“With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family,” Cavallari posted on Instagram in April 2020.
Cavallari and Cutler share sons Camden, 11, Jaxon, 10, and 8-year-old daughter Saylor.
Cutler, who played for the Broncos, Bears and Dolphins throughout his 12-year NFL career, sparked headlines in 2022 after stating he “threw a party” when the divorce settlement “came through.”
When asked by TMZ about the comments a short time later, Cavallari cheekily replied, “I’ve been partying for two years straight.”
Cavallari debuted her romance with 24-year-old TikToker Mark Estes in February — with the 13-year age gap fueling internet chatter.
“I understand what it looks like from the outside world of, like, yeah, I’m dating a 24-year-old, but no one in my life has been like, ‘This is weird.’ Everyone’s like, ‘I get it. It makes sense,” Cavallari told Bustle.
“… Emotionally, he’s able to step up to the plate, and he’s shown up for me more than anyone else I’ve ever dated.”
