Aaron Rodgers may try to help with Jets’ Haason Reddick impasse

The Jets’ biggest attraction — future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers — may get involved in the Haason Reddick holdout.
He at least left it open as a possibility after Tuesday’s lengthy practice.
Reddick, the star edge rusher acquired from the Eagles on April 1, has yet to show up to the team’s practice facility for training camp — or spring workouts, for that matter — as he awaits a contract extension.

Monday, he requested a trade before playing a down or suiting up for practice with his new team.
Jets general manager Joe Douglas promptly shot down that request in a statement, saying they would not move the 29-year-old, two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman, and they expect him to arrive at camp or face further fines in line with the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
“Obviously, we’d love for him to be here, but we don’t judge him for trying to do what’s best for him,” Rodgers said. “I think what’s best for him is to be a Jet, because this is going to be a fun ride, but he’s got to make the best decision for him and his family.”
Rodgers said the two exchanged messages after the trade, and he may reach out to share his take on the matter.
“It’s possible, anything’s possible,” the four-time MVP said.

When the Jets traded for Reddick in exchange for a 2026 conditional third-round draft pick, they expected him to report to training camp under his current deal, which pays him a $14.25 million base salary.
The Jets thought the two sides were in agreement that he would report to the spring program without a new deal.
He passed his physical and was present for an introductory news conference when Reddick said he would leave his future up to his agent and Douglas.

“I looked at the roster — that was one of the first things that I did when I saw the trade — and I can pretty much guarantee it’s going to be some great ball being played,” Reddick said then.
Coach Robert Saleh declined to offer his opinion on the matter, preferring to let the statement from Douglas speak for itself.
In the statement, Douglas said the Jets have been “clear, direct and consistent with our position.”
Asked exactly what that position is, Saleh declined to address it.
The team had a negotiating window prior to the trade being finalized, but Reddick turned down a short-term extension in hopes of landing a long-term deal.
The Jets coach said he is more focused on the players who are at training camp than the Reddick ordeal, and believes they have enough on the defensive line without the star pass-rusher.
“It’s not. I promise you it’s not,” Saleh said. “It’s a great opportunity for the guys that are here. We love our [defensive] line, we love our depth, especially at the defensive end position.”
Perhaps, but the Jets could certainly use Reddick, who has averaged a shade over 12.6 sacks over the past four years, particularly after losing sack leader Bryce Huff (10) to the Eagles in the offseason.
It has been a strange saga, one that doesn’t appear to have an end in sight at the moment.
“There are always new things in the league. I’ve been around 20 years, I’ve seen a lot of stuff,” Rodgers said. “I think as players we always try to first side with the player, because you know what it’s like to be a player.”
That doesn’t mean Rodgers won’t try to help end this stalemate.
In May, Rodgers admitted there was pressure to win this coming season, and if that doesn’t happen, “then we’re all probably gonna be out of here.”

For the Jets to win big, they almost certainly need Reddick to be a big part of the team.
Maybe the superstar quarterback can expedite this snail-like process.
