Aaron Boone addresses Alex Verdugo bunt after tense reporter exchange

Aaron Boone finally gave some insight into the ugly bunt attempt by Alex Verdugo during an appearance on “Talkin’ Yanks” on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after refusing to answer a similar question posed by a reporter after the loss.

Verdugo popped up a bunt back to the pitcher in the fourth inning with two men on and nobody out, which puzzled just about everyone watching the game.

While Boone refused to answer the question during his postgame media availability, Verdugo told reporters that it was his decision to bunt.

However, during the weekly appearance on the Jomboy Media podcast, Boone said “

We talked ahead of time of the at-bat about it,” Boone added.

While on the episode, he was pressed about why he refused to answer the question after the game and in his response on Monday night said that it wasn’t something he ever answers.

“Maybe it is weird, I just don’t like in the moment to get asked, did that come from the bench when we steal a base or whatever,” Boone said during Tuesday’s appearance.

When he was asked if that was because he was trying not to tip his hand to his strategy, he replied “I don’t know.”

“It may be silly, it may be ridiculous, whatever. It’s my choice. We didn’t get the job done,” Boone added.

The Yankees fell to the White Sox 12-2 in an embarrassing loss to a team in the middle of a historically bad season.

The game was the first of three in which the Yankees were scheduled to play against the White Sox.

“Yeah, they’re one of the worst teams, if you want to put it that way, but these guys are still big leaguers,” Verdugo told reporters after Monday’s loss.
