DETROIT — The Yankees are adding a second lefty to their bullpen.

The club called up reliever Tim Mayza on Friday before opening a series against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

He will join Tim Hill as another option from the left side for Aaron Boone as the Yankees try to fortify a bullpen that has shown some cracks of late.

Jazz Chisholm confident he’ll make Yankees return after minimum IL stint: ‘100 percent realistic’

The Yankees had signed Mayza to a minor league deal in July after he was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays.

The 32-year-old, who gave up Aaron Judge’s 61st home run in 2022, had an 8.03 ERA in 35 games this year for the Blue Jays with a dip in velocity.

But just last season he had a 1.52 ERA in 69 games.

In nine games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Mayza posted a 2.16 ERA.

Mayza’s promotion came as somewhat of a surprise with the likes of Scott Effross, Nick Burdi and Ron Marinaccio waiting for their chance at Triple-A.

Effross has not pitched in the big leagues since the end of 2022 after undergoing Tommy John and back surgery, but he has been throwing the ball better of late after being returned from his rehab assignment and optioned to Triple-A last month.

The Yankees had an open spot on their 40-man roster for Mayza after designating reliever Enyel De Los Santos for assignment on Wednesday.

That was to make room for Will Warren on the active roster, but after Warren made a spot start against the White Sox he was sent back to Triple-A.
