Brandon Nimmo avoids IL in positive Mets sign

Brandon Nimmo’s right shoulder aced its big test Monday.
A day after the Mets outfielder jammed the shoulder on a diving catch in left field, an MRI exam came back “clean,” according to manager Carlos Mendoza, and Nimmo won’t need a stint on the injured list.
Though Nimmo was available off the bench, it was only as a pinch runner, according to Mendoza.
Nimmo said he will test the shoulder on Tuesday and his availability will be determined.
“It’s hard for me to say just because I do feel really good right now, but we did give it a day away from throwing and hitting,” Nimmo said. “I do feel excited for [Tuesday], but I don’t want to say that I’m in there because we didn’t get to test it today.”
Nimmo has slumped since the All-Star break but showed signs offensively over the weekend, when he hit two homers in three games against the Marlins.
Mark Vientos’ first-inning single gave him a seven-game hitting streak. Vientos has recorded at least one hit in his last 11 games at Citi Field.
Over his last 79 games (dating to May 18) entering play Monday, Francisco Lindor ranked first in the NL with a 5.1 fWAR and his 100 hits also ranked first.
Lindor was tied for second in runs (58), third in doubles (22) and fourth in steals (18) over that stretch.
