Observations from Giants training camp on Tuesday:

    New-look defense

Safety Tyler Nubin was first up next to Jason Pinnock for the first time, as he appears to be passing Dane Belton in that position battle.

Fellow rookie ILB Darius Muasau got his first first-team looks because of an injury shortage. Isaiah Simmons, who is struggling with speedy receivers as a slot cornerback, was with the starters as a deep safety during a no-huddle drill.

    Quiet connection

The issues the Giants still need to address before the start of the season

In his first practice since his two-interception preseason debut, Daniel Jones completed 13 of 19 passes.

Only two of those targets — a catch and a drop — went to Malik Nabers on an uncharacteristically quiet day. Jones likely would’ve been sacked but instead chucked up a fourth-down prayer that was intercepted by Nubin in a one-minute no-huddle drive.

    Caught my eye

If only for one snap, Tommy DeVito was the second quarterback on the field today, ahead of Drew Lock.

It was Lock’s first day back in team periods after he injured his hip in the preseason opener. Lock took his place ahead of DeVito later in practice except for one other period that he sat out.

    Injury report

WR/PR Gunner Olszewski (groin), TE Lawrence Cager (groin), LB Micah McFadden (groin), Matthew Adams (groin), LB D’yontae Johnson (ankle) and S Gervarrius Owens (knee) are week-to-week, per Brian Daboll. OL Jon Runyan Jr. (shoulder), CB Cor’Dale Flott (quad) and CB David Long Jr. (hamstring) are close to returning. Lock, RB Dante Miller (hamstring), RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. and CB Dru Philips (ankle) returned to limited action.
