‘Rocky Horror’ legend Tim Curry to take on first feature film role in 14 years

Tim Curry is returning to the big screen.

The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” actor, 78, will appear in the new slasher film “Stream,” according to Variety .

This is Curry’s first feature film role in 14 years.

“Stream” is opening in select theaters Wednesday (Aug. 21).

The horror film is directed by Michael Leavy and stars Jeffrey Combs, Charles Powell, Tim Reid, Dee Wallace, David Howard Thornton, Danielle Harris, Mark Holton and more.

“This has been a really hard secret to keep and contain our excitement, especially for this long,” Leavy said to Variety about Curry appearing in the film.

“We are so happy and thrilled to bring Tim back to the movies and back to the big screen,” the director continued. “His charm always radiates and shines through everything he does and we are so honored to have him a part of ‘Stream.’ He is someone I have idolized personally growing up and it is one of the major highlights of my life getting to work with him, especially on a project that means so much to me.”

Leavy added, “We can’t wait for fans to sit back and enjoy our movie in theaters and hopefully with a huge crowd having a blast together. This is the way horror films are meant to be seen and enjoyed. ‘Stream’ is here to entertain.”

The iconic actor’s last feature film role was the 2010 comedy “Burke & Hare.” He starred opposite Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis, Isla Fisher and Tom Wilkinson.

Curry’s career stalled after he suffered a stroke in July 2012 , which has left him wheelchair-bound.

But he has done voice acting on many animated projects, including the shows “Young Justice,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja” and “Ben 10: Omniverse.”

Curry also appeared in the 2016 TV remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” He played the Criminologist Narrator.

“Orange Is The New Black” alum Laverne Cox, 52, starred in the remake as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the role Curry originated in the 1975 cult-favorite film.

Curry told People before the remake aired that he was pleased to be “coming back to the project, which I hold very dear. It’s very exciting. It will be very interesting because it’s very close to me.”

Cox, who is transgender , said watching Curry in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” was inspiring to her.

“When I saw Tim Curry for the first time in that film, I was sort of in a gender-nonconforming space,” she told People. “I had a shaved head and was starting to wear makeup, and I was exploring my gender more — and here was this character who was just so unapologetically themselves, and it gave me permission to not just dream it but to be it.”

Curry has stepped away from the spotlight since his stroke.

In 2015, the “Home Alone 2” star told Los Angeles Magazine that he was “doing well.”

He also shared that relying on his sense of humor was “vital” while recovering from his stroke.

“It’s not tough to maintain. It is just part of my DNA,” said Curry.
