Colorado bans columnist from asking Deion Sanders questions after ‘sustained, personal attacks’

Deion Sanders is on the defensive again.

The Buffaloes have banned Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler from asking head coach Deion Sanders or other members of the football program questions, the school said Friday.

This comes after the school said Sanders faced a series of “personal attacks.”

“After a series of sustained, personal attacks on the football program and specifically Coach Prime, the CU Athletic Department in conjunction with the football program, have decided not to take questions from Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler at football-related events,” said Colorado’s athletic department in a statement. “Keeler is still permitted to attend football-related activities as a credentialed member of the media and other reporters from the Denver Post are welcome to ask questions of football program personnel made available to the media, including coaches, players and staff.”

The Denver Post said a Colorado athletic department media relations staffer told the paper that it took exception with criticisms from Keeler levied at Sanders in a column.

Keeler referred to Coach Prime as “Deposition Deion,” the “Bruce Lee of B.S.” and a “false prophet,” while also using phrases like “Planet Prime,” “the Deion Kool-Aid” and “circus.”

According to ESPN, the ban is indefinite.

This comes just two weeks after Sanders said he wasn’t going to answer questions from CBS in a press conference and — separately — accused Keeler of attacking him.

Sanders said the writer was “always being on the attack” toward him and even asked at one point, “What happened to get you like this?”

“No, I’m serious. I want to help because it’s not normal,” Sanders added.

After the exchange, Keeler wrote that Sanders is, “A confident man who suddenly looked and acted and sounded … afraid .”

The Denver Post reported that Sanders has unique language in his contract that says he is required to speak only with “mutually agreed upon media.”

The Buffaloes will begin their 2024 campaign Thursday against perennial Division I FCS contender North Dakota State on ESPN.
