Mariah Carey was reportedly not in touch with her sister, Alison, in the final month of her life despite being told she was dying, a friend of the singer’s late sibling alleged.
Dave Baker, who says he was pals with Alison for many years and helped provide her with care at the end of her life, spoke about Alison’s final days in an interview with The Sun .
“She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral. I am told that a memorial service is planned for a future date, but nothing now.”
He also claimed that Carey “never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying.”
“A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison,” he said. “But it never came.”
Baker made a dig at Carey’s response to her sister’s death. “And now Mariah is ‘heartbroken’ by the loss of her mother and her ‘ex’ sister,” the alleged friend added. “That callous rejection added more hurt to Alison’s pain.”
According to Baker, “Alison was on home hospice care for the last three weeks of her life” and “had a problem with internal organs.”
Remembering Alison, he shared, “Beneath a tough exterior, Alison was a highly intelligent, warm, and sensitive person.”
“I have known her for nine years,” he continued, “and as her friend, and in recent months her care, I will miss her greatly.”
Alison’s self-recognized struggle with addiction was reportedly a sticking point for Carey, with sources telling TMZ that the singer “put up a wall” because she felt she needed to show her sister some “tough love” and not enable her. According to the sources, the “Always Be My Baby” chanteuse previously attempted to support her sister both emotionally and financially but to little avail.
Based on available information, it appears that Alison was 63 and Patricia was 84 when they each passed. Their causes of death are not yet known.
The Post has reached out to Carey’s rep.
Following the passing of her sister and her mom, Carey released a statement on Monday, August 26, saying, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.”
“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey added.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Carey detailed her difficult relationship with her family members in her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Shockingly, she accused Alison of drugging her with valium when she was just 12 years old.
Alison later sued her famous sister, claiming “intentional infliction of immense emotional distress caused by defendant’s heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation of defendant’s’ already profoundly damaged older sister.”
