Adam Schefter’s commentary — or lack thereof — on Travis Kelce’s recent pricey purchase sent the Swifties at the worldwide leader into a tizzy on Tuesday.
When recapping this week’s news that Kansas City’s star tight end purchased an ownership stake in a racehorse named Swift Delivery, “NFL Live” host Laura Rutledge commented Kelce did not buy “an engagement ring” for girlfriend Taylor Swift — a remark that prompted a follow-up question by Schefter, coupled with prolonged silence, that lit the match of fierce speculation.
“How do you know that Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?” Schefter asked, to which Rutledge replied, “I don’t know, do you know?”
With the NFL insider keeping his lips sealed, Rutledge filled the empty airwaves with, “Are you going to break some big news here?”
As Schefter blinked, he eventually responded, “I’m just saying you said that he didn’t buy an engagement ring and I’m just wondering how you have that information?”
Booger McFarland then addressed the elephant in the room.
“The awkward silence right there speaks volumes, Schefty, do you know something, Schefty? America wants to know,” McFarland pressed.
“All I did was ask a question about how Laura knew he hadn’t bought an engagement ring. That’s all I was doing,” Schefter replied.
Page Six previously reported the three-time Super Bowl champ has asked Swift’s dad, Scott, for his blessing before getting down on one knee.
Swift, who recently wrapped the European leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour, reunited with Kelce this past weekend in Rhode Island, where they enjoyed time together with friends before the NFL season gets underway.
Kelce and the Chiefs open the season next Thursday at home against the Ravens.
It remains to be seen if Swift — who attended 13 Chiefs games last season, including the Super Bowl — will be in attendance.
