On the day the Steelers bench boss officially made the decision to tab Wilson as his Week 1 starter against the Falcons, he joined host Rich Eisen on his eponymous show to discuss his potential plans for Fields.
“My friend [Falcons coach] Raheem Morris better be ready for Justin Fields package, I’ll say that,” Tomlin said.

When Eisen pressed the coach about the specific game plan and if Fields will be wearing an earpiece in the opener against the Falcons, Tomlin demurred.
But he did seem to hint that Fields could, at some point, see the field.
“You know, I don’t want to disclose any strategic approaches, but it’s probably too much talent to be sitting around watching all day,” Tomlin said. “You know what I mean?”

“It was a difficult decision, but not difficult in a negative way,” Tomlin said. “The decision was difficult because of what they’re capable of doing.”

He also rushed for 48 yards, though he was sacked five times across three preseason games.
Wilson, after two uneven years with the Broncos, said he’s excited to take the helm under center for his third NFL team.
“I came here to help us win,” Wilson told reporters. “That’s the focus.”
