Elton John, famous for his attention-grabbing eyewear, is facing a different kind of vision challenge that glasses won’t fix.
The spectacularly spectacled Rocket Man has revealed he has been battling a serious optic infection that has left him with “limited vision” in one of his eyes.
“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” John, 77, wrote in a post on Instagram .
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
The legendary piano man behind classics such as “Crocodile Rock,” “Bennie and the Jets” and “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” went on to express his gratitude for his caregivers.
“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” he wrote.
“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”
For John, the farewell tour — which grossed more than $900 million in ticket sales — was the career-capping culmination of “52 years of pure joy playing music.”
But, although he may still be playing more concerts, it was time to say goodbye to touring.
“I want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything,” said John, who has two sons — Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11 — with husband David Furnish. “I’ve earned it.”
Still, John hasn’t gone completely MIA since telling fans that they’ll forever remain in his “head, heart and soul” at the end of his farewell tour.
In June, Sir Elton joined President Biden for the grand opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center at the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village that birthed America’s gay rights movement 55 years ago.
Plus, in January, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer became an EGOT winner after earning his first Emmy for his Disney+ special “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.”
