Rapper Rich Homie Quan dead at 33

Rich Homie Quan has died at 33 years old.

The platinum-selling rapper — whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar — passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 5, The Post confirmed.

“On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, 6 September 2024,” the coroner said in a statement.

TMZ was first to break the news after speaking with Rich Homie Quan’s family.

Rapper Boosie Badazz claimed the musician — born October 4, 1990 — allegedly overdosed; however, the cause of death has not been confirmed at this time.

“JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST OD ‼️JUST TALK TO WUAN THE OTHER DAY,” Boosie posted on X , formerly Twitter, on Thursday morning.

He followed it up with several tweets.

“JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA,” Boosie shared. “Never go forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music.”

He also claimed the two had been “cooking up” a new project together.

Rich Homie Quan’s family told TMZ that they are heartbroken and shattered by his unexpected death.

The rapper’s real name was Dequantes Lamar. He burst onto the mainstream hip-hop scene in 2013 with his instant hit, “Type of Way.” The single landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart , launching him into stardom.

Other fan-favorite songs included his 2015 hits “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Ride Out.”

Rich Homie Quan frequently collaborated with Atlanta rappers 2 Chainz and Jacquees and joined Young Thug on the Cash Money Records project, “Rich Gang.”

Tributes immediately started pouring in following the news of Rich Homie Quan’s death.

Adam Grandmaison, known as Adam22 of the podcast “No Jumper,” shared a photo of the late rapper and wrote, “RIP Rich Homie Quan” while including a white dove emoji.

Rich Homie Quan had big plans for his future, telling Billboard that while he appreciated the love of “Type of Me,” his goal was to get the audience to connect beyond his major hit.

“It’s not about me,” he shared with the outlet. “It’s about making the brand bigger than life. My days are busy only because I’ve made them busy so I can stay on top. Put that pressure on people.”

He expressed his desire to build an empire in the rap game.

“Everything starts somewhere,” he said. “I’m pretty sure when Cash Money first started off, they didn’t think it would get as big as it is today. I just want something that can last forever.”
