    LEARN MORE Martin Greenfield

    New York Post photo composite

Martin Greenfield’s Brooklyn shop is renowned for its bespoke suiting, offering a truly custom experience. Sadly, Greenfield himself passed away in March of 2024 at the age of 95, but his legacy and teachings live on through his team at his eponymous establishment, Martin Greenfield Clothiers, Ltd. His obituary was written by Alex Traub for the New York Times and covered by NPR .

Located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Martin Greenfield Clothiers, Ltd. may be off the beaten path to some, but to true New Yorkers, a few stops on the L train is nothing – and probably well worth the extra time. Martin Greenfield is a true American story worth hearing in person if you can. According to the Martin Greenfield Clothiers, Ltd. website:

“Greenfield emigrated to the United States as an orphaned Holocaust survivor in 1947 and got his first job as a floor boy at the GGG clothing factory we now operate in. Martin went to night school to learn English, got his citizenship, and worked at the factory for 30 years, becoming the production manager. In 1977, after his employer decided to shut down the factory, Martin purchased it and established Martin Greenfield Clothiers, producing clothing for businessmen and grooms, as well as presidents and celebrities.”

Those presidents included Dwight D. Eisenhower, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama, and celebrities included Frank Sinatra, Lebron James, and Mark Cuban, to name just a few.

You can support Martin Greenfield Clothiers, Ltd. by patronizing the shop, as he was a staunch supporter of unions and fought for his employees. Still, you can also read more about his life story in his 2016 memior, “ Measure of a Man: From Auschwitz Survivor to Presidents’ Tailor .”

    LEARN MORE Ralph Lauren
    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3nwmVT_0vNYdcuO00

Ralph Lauren’s Madison Avenue mansion – yes, mansion – epitomizes the brand’s timeless elegance and sophistication. According to the Ralph Lauren website:

“Originally designed in the 1890s by Kimball & Thompson, the Rhinelander Mansion is an architectural treasure and among the few remaining turn-of-the-century great homes in Manhattan. With its classic Beaux Arts façade, the building is a large French Renaissance Revival mansion, exemplary of the grand architecture of the Upper East Side. In 1983, Ralph Lauren began an extensive renovation to recreate and restore the classic opulence of the original structure.”

After opening to the public in 1986, Ralph Lauren hasn’t looked back. Instead, he opened a dedicated women’s store across the street in 2010, so business must be good.

With floor after floor of luxurious Ralph and Polo goodness, there is no shortage of lifestyle to leave behind, but men’s suiting and made-to-measure offerings certainly remain a focus for the brand. However, no matter how formal the fabrics or fine the finishings, Ralph Lauren always finds a way to add an element of casual preppiness to keep the mood light.

Located at East 72nd and Madison Avenue, incorporating the artistic vision of the Gertrude Rhinelander Waldo House would be fitting to count it among stops such as The Guggenheim, The Met, and The Frick on a Sunday afternoon stroll along Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side – wearing Ralph, of course.

    LEARN MORE John Varvatos
    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=2YOls3_0vNYdcuO00

John Varvatos’ Bowery store is rock and roll – literally. The designer known for dressing some of rock’s biggest legends acquired a piece of New York City history when he got the lease for 315 Bowery, the site of the former punk club, CBGB , and opened his flagship New York City location there in 2008, only two years after the club officially closed its doors for good on October 31, 2006.

Whereas the designer turned the space into a retail location to house his high-end luxury rock wear, he maintained as much grit and grime as he could since he himself was a fan of the establishment throughout its heyday.

John Varvatos offers a unique blend of rock-and-roll edge and sophisticated style in men’s suiting. John Varvatos, as a brand, is known for slim and trim distinctive designs not intended for the boardroom, high-quality Italian fabrics, and meticulous craftsmanship.

There is a lot more than suiting to shop for at John Varvatos, with each piece truly being an investment, but if you have ever listened to Patti Smith, Blondie, Misfits, the Ramones, Joan Jett, Korn, Green Day, or Guns n Roses, you owe it to yourself to at least pay homeage to the place they played some of their best, most intimate shows.
