USWNT star Alex Morgan’s illustrious soccer career is coming to an end .
On Thursday, September 5, the World Cup champion announced that not only will she be retiring from professional soccer, she is also pregnant with her second child. Morgan and her husband, Servando Carrasco, are already parents to their 4-year-old daughter, Charlie.
“This is also not the retirement video I expected when I initially thought I was going to do this because Charlie is going to be a big sister,” Morgan explained in an emotional video posted to X.
Morgan is currently a striker for San Diego Wave FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), and today, September 8, she’ll play her game as a professional soccer player with the Wave against the North Carolina Courage.

Alex Morgan’s career:
Morgan’s 13-and-a-half-year career is marked with several accomplishments. She appeared in 337 games for the USWNT, where she helped the team take home two World Cup titles (2015, 2019), an Olympic gold medal (2012), and an Olympic bronze medal (2020). She also won three CONCACAF W Championships and one CONCACAF W Gold Cup with the USWNT.
Also during her time with the USWNT, she was part of a five-player coalition that filed a federal complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accusing USA Soccer of paying female players less than their male counterparts which ended in a landmark equal pay agreement.
Individually, Morgan was named U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year twice (2012, 2018), was a FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World 11 selection five times (2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022), and won CONCACAF Player of the Year four times (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018).
Morgan played in the NWSL’s inaugural season in 2013, where she was a member of the Portland Thorns FC’s first lineup. She also played for the Orlando Pride and currently serves as the San Diego Wave FC’s captain. She’s captured every title in the NWSL: NWSL Championship, NWSL Shield, and NWSL Challenge Cup.
Additionally, Morgan won a Division 1 Féminine title in France with Olympique Lyonnais Féminin.
