Delta jet readying for takeoff rips its wing off after clipping another plane on taxiway

A Delta jet clipped a smaller plane on a taxiway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday morning, knocking the smaller aircraft’s tail off, officials said.

Delta Air Lines Flight 295 was taxiing for takeoff to Tokyo just after 10 a.m. when its wingtip hit the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526, which was on an adjacent taxiway before it was set to take off for Louisiana, Delta Air Lines said in a statement.

The Endeavor plane’s tail was damaged upon impact, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Delta.

No injuries were reported in the incident, officials said.

Customers on the impacted flights were brought back to the terminal, where they will be provided alternate flights, Delta said.

There were 221 passengers aboard the Delta flight and 56 on the Endeavor flight.

Endeavor Air is a regional airline headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that is owned by Delta.

Delta is cooperating with the National Transportation Safety Board and other authorities on this incident.
