The Yankees and Lou Trivino worked out an agreement that will extend his rehab assignment another 10 days beginning Friday, The Post has learned.

Trivino has not pitched in the majors since the 2022 playoffs. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2022. The Yankees re-signed the veteran righty in February to a $1.5 million 2024 contract with a $5 million 2025 option.

“Lou is making significant progress,” his agent, Steve Canter, said. “He appreciates the club’s support and extension made sense.”

Trivino, who turns 33 on Oct. 1, has made 10 appearances on rehab between Double- and Triple-A, pitching to a 5.40 ERA.

Per MLB rules, players who are rehabbing from UCL reconstruction surgery are allowed to have three straight 10-day extensions as long as the MLBPA and MLB approve.

By extending his rehab, which ran out Thursday, Trivino can continue to pitch in the short term in the Yankee system and try to become a viable piece to call up before the end of the year and potentially make a postseason roster.

The Yankees will have to decide how to configure their pitching staff for the playoffs depending on the opponent and whether initially they are playing a best-of-three wild card series or if they win the AL East a best-of-five Division Series.

The Yankees could, for example, decide if Marcus Stroman is not one of their starters, they are better off keeping him off the roster and adding a reliever such as Trivino.

Or, if the Yankees determine that Nestor Cortes is going to work out of the bullpen to provide a second lefty option with Tim Hill, they could decide it is more valuable to have someone like Trivino rather than a third lefty such as Tim Mayza.
