    Check before you check out.

A new survey has revealed some of the most surprising things left behind at the end of a hotel stay — stuff that the average traveler would likely never consider bringing along with them.

As part of an industry report compiled by Hotels.com , the third-party booking engine asked properties for their favorite lost and found finds — with a third of hotels responding that guests leave behind items on at least 25% of stays.

“Our memories are tied to particular contexts,” Professor Charan Ranganath of UC Davis, author of Why We Remember, told Hotels.com.

“A vacation is relaxing because it pulls you out of your routine and stimulates your curiosity. But it can make you a little less likely to follow your good habits, like exercise—or remembering your wallet,” the expert explained.

Phone chargers and power banks, clothes, adapters, make up and toiletries and underwear are the most commonly left behind souvenirs for housekeepers, after travelers pack up their rooms.

Forgotten accessories aren’t typically too surprising, but they did shock staff when they were worth more than most people’s houses.

Ritzy travelers have left behind an engagement ring, a Hermès Birkin bag and a $6 million watch, innkeepers revealed.

Stacks of cash and the keys and papers for a luxury car were also a surprising look into how the other half live.

What shocked one cleanup crew even more was walking into a room with abandoned pets.

A chick and pet lizard were found — and eventually reunited with their family — after their owner checked out.

Staff also had questions about how people walked out leaving two full leg casts behind.

Other items that were left behind raised questions as to why they were even in the room at all — particularly a rice cooker, car tire, blender and construction pipes.

Luckily, innkeepers strive to accommodate travelers and typically do their best to reunite guests with the things that got left behind.

An incredibly dedicated team member at the Hotel Victoria Ejecutivo in Guadalajara, Mexico chased a guest on a motorcycle to return a passport.

To help travelers remember everything they packed, Ranganath suggests walking through packing in your head before the trip is officially over to prepare yourself.

“Put yourself in that mindset and then run through a mental checklist of all the things that you need to grab,” he advised.

“And then imagine yourself packing or taking each of those things one by one. The mental simulation will help you remember things when it comes time to check out.”
