A Florida sheriff’s deputy allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend while he was showing her how to clean the gun, according to reports.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy Leslie Boileau, who had been drinking, was showing his girlfriend, Polina Wright, 25, how to clean an AR-style rifle on Thursday when the gun discharged a loaded round into her forehead, according to the Ocala Police Department .

The gun toting sheriff told police his deceased beau had asked him how to clean a gun just before showing her how to disassemble and clean the rifle and a 9 millimeter handgun, Fox13 reported.

The two then pointed the guns at each other.

The pair had just returned home from dinner, where they each had three margaritas, when Boileau spotted the gun cleaning supplies he had recently ordered, the outlet reported. That’s when his girlfriend inquired on his gun cleaning ritual.

Boileau said he grabbed the rifle and dry-fired it one time, according to the arrest report.

“On the second dry fire attempt, Boileau had forgotten that he placed the loaded magazine into the rifle which shot one live round in the direction of (his girlfriend), ultimately killing her,” the arrest report states.

Boileau, an eight-year deputy, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, police said, adding a search of his home found physical evidence that corroborated his account of the incident.

He was immediately terminated after the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office told WESH , confirming the gun used in the fatal incident was not his service firearm.

Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods said in a statement that the Ocala Police Department has the support of his office, Fox reported.

“Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers do their job commendably everyday,” Woods said. “But unfortunately, the tragic actions of just one are felt through the entire law enforcement community.”

Boileau is being held with no bond at the Marion County Jail.
