The Liberty are set for a rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals, when the Aces won their second consecutive title, in four games.

The two superteams meet earlier this year, in the semifinals, starting Sunday.

Here are three keys for the Liberty to change the tide on Las Vegas:

    1. Length

Breanna Stewart’s 34 points power Liberty past Aces for Game 1 win

The biggest challenge facing the Aces is the new Liberty starting five that has swapped established veteran Courtney Vandersloot for rookie Leonie Fiebich.

At 6-foot-4, Fiebich adds more height to the Liberty stars and more of a defensive threat.

Fiebich is a strong presence against forwards and guards, which likely will alleviate much of the backcourt troubles the Liberty had in 2023.

It would be wise to keep her on the court to contain the Aces guards and for her shooting ability.

    2. Anyone but A’ja

A’ja Wilson shouldn’t put up a shot, make a pass or get a rebound that isn’t contested by the Liberty.

The 2024 MVP is a big threat down below and Breanna Stewart is tasked with the challenge of slowing her.

Nevertheless, if the Liberty can get extra help on Wilson, that could force other Aces to have to be the playmakers.

    3. Depth

The top task on the Liberty to-do list at the end of last season was to build their bench, and nearly a year later they have plenty of options for tough moments in the tight playoff schedule.

With Fiebich in the starting lineup, Vandersloot will be tasked to be a facilitator with fresh legs.

Kayla Thornton can pose a physical defensive challenge against the Aces backcourt.

Nyara Sabally can be counted on to give Jonquel Jones a rest, grab rebounds and put up a few points at center.
