NYC Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright officially resigns in latest high-profile departure from the Eric Adams administration

First Deputy Mayor of New York City Sheena Wright officially resigned Tuesday, making her the latest high-profile casualty of a sweeping federal corruption probe that’s shaken Mayor Eric Adams’ administration to its very core.

The move — which was widely expected, with one source saying last week that Wright was “being shown the door” — comes about a month after the feds busted into the Harlem home she shares with new husband David Banks, the outgoing schools chancellor, and seized their electronic devices.

Maria Torres-Springer — the city’s deputy mayor for housing — is widely expected to replace Wright, who has not been charged with a crime.

But the raids — which also targeted several of Adams’ other close allies and key lieutenants — put the couple in the hot seat  just as Hizzoner tries to steady his administration in the face of his own historic federal corruption indictment.

Seen for the first time since her resignation later Tuesday, Wright stepped out of her Harlem home in jeans and a gray hoodie, saying “I’m very proud of the work that we’ve done” before walking away.

Without a clear mayoral upgrade, nobody has been able to deliver the KO to Eric Adams – yet

Sources said Gov. Kathy Hochul — who has the power to remove Adams but has not exercised it — has been pressuring Adams to clean house in the wake of his troubles, leading to the cluster of resignations and quiet firings.

She’s also been working behind the scenes to fill the resulting vacancies.

Among those who have left or are on the way out are Wright’s husband, David, who is who is expected to step down in a matter of weeks, and close Adams pal Phil Banks, who resigned as deputy mayor on Sunday.

Two controversial City Hall staffers — Winnie Greco, a longtime Adams confidante, and staffer Rana Abbasova,  a key figure in Adams’ criminal case— were also pushed out of their jobs Monday , sources told The Post.

And two other staffers — Mohammad Bahi, the mayor’s liaison to the Muslim community, and Ahsan Chutgai, his senior Muslim adviser — resigned in recent days, according to sources.

Bahi was charged in an indictment unsealed Tuesday with witness tampering and destruction of evidence in the case against Adams.

Wright, who previously denied her plans to resign, oversaw the city’s budget and finance offices as well as its recruiting and hiring agency, the Department of Citywide Administrative Service, and the policy arm of the administration, the Office of Policy & Planning.

She was also reportedly unhappy with how her husband was booted from his job months earlier than he planned, insiders said.

Banks said late last month he would retire at year’s end — an announcement he made right before news broke that a grand jury handed down a five-count indictment against Adams, accusing him of defrauding taxpayers out of $10 million in matching campaign funds and taking $123,000 in bribes in the form of travel perks from Turkish officials and nationals.

On the heels of Hizzoner’s criminal charges, Banks and Wright tied the knot in Martha’s Vineyard — a move many saw as a potential attempt to claim “spousal privilege,” the right of a wedded couple to decline to testify against each other.

But the longtime-lovers turned married couple didn’t have much time to enjoy their nuptials, as Banks quickly learned Adams was canning him — and Melissa Aviles-Ramos would take over as schools chief Oct. 16.

The City Hall upheaval has left many wondering if even Adams will be able to keep his job.

Late last month, the Democratic mayor pleaded not guilty in Manhattan federal court to a set of explosive corruption charges that claim he took improper gifts from Turkish officials and businesspeople — including $123,000 in free, or heavily discounted, hotels and flights – dating back to his time as the Brooklyn borough president a decade ago.

He also fraudulently obtained $10 million in public campaign funds, federal prosecutors alleged in the five-count indictment.

In exchange, Adams coughed up favors — such as pressuring city officials to push through speedy approvals for the Turkish Consulate in Manhattan, the court papers charge.

The mayor has since proclaimed his innocence, pleaded not guilty and vowed to fight the charges, which his celebrity attorney, Alex Spiro, called “the airline upgrade corruption case.”

“This case isn’t even a real case,” Spiro has claimed.
