Cleveland was rocking Thursday after the dramatic ALCS Game 3 win over the Yankees, and one of the area’s native sons couldn’t have been happier about the victory.
Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce clearly had his eye on the game and reacted on social media when the game came to its exciting conclusion following David Fry’s 10th-inning walk-off homer.
“Playoff baseball baby!!! @CleGuardians have the city absolutely ROCKIN TONIGHT!! What a game!” he posted on X along with three fire emojis.
In a reply post on Thursday night, he called out fans who shaded him for not wearing Guardians merch for the game.
“I’ve been a cleveland sports fan my entire life… Make it back to countless amount of games over the years both Guards and Cavs just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE!!… and I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time and all of a sudden I’m not a real fan?!” he wrote. “Ask anybody that was in or around that suite on game 1 who I was cheering for, they’ll let you know I was there for the @CleGuardians .”
“It was mixed feelings because I was there trying to have some fun with Tay and everybody. All our friends … came. We had an unbelievable crew with us and hanging with us. It was fun,” Kelce said.
He did acknowledge that he had been bummed that the Guardians couldn’t pull off a win.
“Even though the Guards couldn’t pull it off, it was still an exciting game,” Kelce said. “It was cool to see Yankee Stadium because I always wanted to see that thing in person, in a playoff game, in a hostile environment, and it didn’t disappoint, man.”
Game 3 featured plenty of drama in the final innings of the game, with the Yankees and Guardians trading home runs before Fry hit the game-winning homer in the bottom of the 10th.
The Yankees still hold a 2- 1 series lead over the Guardians with Game 4 slated to take place on Friday night at Progressive Field.
