No election will be necessary to find a replacement for Rangers play-by-play icon Sam Rosen who will close his broadcasting career at the end of this season.

While the Met Area has more competent hockey broadcasting guys than the Atlantic has herring, there's one – and only one – play-by-play choice for the coveted gig.

MSG Networks boss Andrea Greenberg need not waste a moment of her time auditioning a Sam replacement. He's here and you no doubt have guessed his name by now.

    Of course – KENNY ALBERT.

Who could be better? Or, to put it another way, how could anyone be better than the best hockey play-by-play voice on the continent.

That, naturally includes the Dominion of Canada where there are plenty of pretenders but, alas, no contenders.

What makes this so easy for Andrea, my wise and wonderful former MSG boss, is that

Kenny has expertly been doing Rangers radio – alongside insightful Dave Maloney – before Alexis Lafreniere was in diapers.

I dareway that Albert knows the Rangers inside-out and outside-in like Chris Drury and Peter Laviolette put together.

Apart from the dual Rosen-Albert excellence, the current and – I hope – future Rangers tv play-by-play man have another neat thing in common.

They are – in the old Brooklyn sense of the words – nice guys, good guys, fellas that add an oft-missing element in sportscasting; street smarts. (You can read about it in Albert's best-selling autobiography, "A Mic For All Seasons."

In other words, you won't find any better brand of gents under one broadcasting roof than Sammy and Kenny.

How lucky can Andrea Greenberg be to have the best and then inherit his equal.

Now we'll see if the Lavvy's Blueshirts can give Sammy a farewell present in 2025 not unlike the one he obtained in 1994!
