The situation between Barclay Goodrow and the New York Rangers this summer wasn’t pretty.

After a real solid playoff performance from Goodrow, the Rangers decided to buy out his contract in an attempt to clear cap space.

The San Jose Sharks ultimately claimed Goodrow off of waivers, a team that was reportedly on his 15-team no-trade list.

There were reports that came out stating that Goodrow was unhappy with the Rangers and how they handled everything as he felt blindsided by the organization.

However, it’s been a few months since this all went down and it seems Goodrow has a better perspective on his future with the Sharks.

“We talked for a while and he’s in a good place and he’s excited,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said via NHL.com. “He’s obviously been in San Jose before, and he knows some of the guys. He and [captain Logan Couture] are really close, so that helps. I think he’s kind of turned the page on New York now. This is a business and that’s part of life… And he’s responded great. He’s all bought in and I’m excited because he’s a big piece of our team and I think he’s excited, too.”

The 34-year-old forward now enters a completely different situation as the Rangers were a team competing for the Stanley Cup while the Sharks are still rebuilding.

It will certainly be a challenge to get adjusted to, but Goodrow is a proven leader who should thrive in his new role.
