Bruins Reportedly Targeting Former Rangers Forward

Former New York Rangers forward Blake Wheeler may not be done playing in the NHL just yet.

According to The Fourth Period’s Shawn Hutcheon , the Boston Bruins are considering extending a professional tryout to Wheeler.

While Wheeler hinted that he is considering retirement following the end of the season, he didn’t officially retire.

“I have three kids: an 11-year-old, an 8-year-old, a 6-year-old. The 11-year-old’s gonna be in middle school next year,” Wheeler said. “When you come to make those decisions now, I still love the game, still love to play, but I want to be around for their childhood, too, so I think those are the things you weigh.”

This past season, the 37-year-old recorded nine goals, 12 assists and 21 points in 54 total games.

Wheeler suffered a gruesome leg injury in February, which kept him out for the remainder of the regular season and most of the playoffs.

If the Bruins do give Wheeler a chance to revive his career, the veteran forward could find a solid role as a bottom six-forward for a Boston team with Stanley Cup aspirations.
