Devils: Stick a Fork in ‘Em?
What a week this has been in the NHL. Yes, the playoffs are here and all bets are off. Nobody cares what you did in the regular season – this is the Stanley Cup playoffs and you better show up ready to play or get ready to go home. For the New Jersey Devils, things look, well, bleak. Forget about the 112 points this season.
The Blueshirts are Dominating – for How Long?
If you are a New York Rangers fan, life is pretty good at this moment. Two games into the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and guess what -the Blueshirts are up 2-0 and dominating their rivals the New Jersey Devils. Even more importantly, the Rangers look like the team they should have been this past season. Better late than never but remember one important thing – this is the playoffs and anything can and will happen.
The 5 most important players on the Giants
The New York Giants have, after roughly a decade of suffering, finally begun to turn the page in to becoming a perennial playoff contender. Both through the draft and free agency, they have a collection of players that has the true potential to blossom in to something special, and many of them have the chance to become true franchise cornerstones.
A Look Back at the 2007 Giants Draft
We are so deep into NFL draft season it hurts. Players are rising and falling on draft boards, mock drafts are coming hot and heavy, and fans are growing more anxious by the day. One way to ease some of the stress that comes from thinking about the Giants’ draft is to look back at past drafts. Today, we will look at one of the best draft classes in Giants’ history.
History of the New York Jets and Their Current Appearance in the NFL League
It’s been a long journey for New York Jets fans, starting at their humble beginnings as the ‘Titans of New York’ in 1960. Since then, they’ve had legendary players like Joe Namath and Richard Todd, division titles, and Super Bowl appearances through the highs and lows that come with being an NFL team.
Two Teams -Two Directions
Sometimes when you watch a soccer match, the nuances of each squad can be easily missed when looking at the overall match score. Those nuances tell a story of where each team is heading and what fans can expect as the NWSL season heats up. Forget about just one match – last weekend told a story of two teams going in two separate directions.
As OTAs Begin, Dabs Reminds Us This Year Has No Bearing on Last Year
The Giants began voluntary organized training activities (OTAs) today. Head Coach Brian Daboll met with the media and was quick to remind everyone that last year was last year and will have no bearing on this year. “It’s only April 17th.” Now is the time for everyone to get to know each other.
Red Bulls Battle Weather, Fan Walkouts to Earn Late Point Versus Houston Dynamo
For a second straight week the New York Red Bulls needed to score late to leave Harrison with a 1-1 draw. This time, Omir Fernandez’s 90th minute header secured RBNY a point against Houston Dynamo FC. After eight games the team has five draws, but only one win has them in 12th place in the east.
Are You Ready for Some Playoff Hockey?
In what can be considered a gross understatement, the New Jersey Devils should receive a trophy as the turnaround team in the NHL this past season. With an improvement of 25 more wins and 49 more total points from 2021-22 to 2022-23, the Devils finished up this year comfortably in second place in the Metropolitan Division. They were one of the most explosive teams offensively in the entire league. Well done; now time to get back to work.
NYCFC will finally get a Permanent Home
Stadiums are a part of the history and culture of each sports franchise and teams are as much recognized for the venues they play in as their respective sports achievements. When you think of the Green Bay Packers, your mind immediately moves to Lambeau Field. The Boston Red Sox just aren’t the same ball club without Fenway Park and nobody would think of watching the New York Rangers play anywhere but Madison Square Garden. Stadiums and teams go together because they create a home for their fans to enjoy for generations.
Let it Begin: Rangers vs. Devils in the Playoffs
For New York hockey fans, things cannot get any better. With all three area teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs this season, what could be even more exciting right now? The answer can be found in the fact that the New York Rangers are playing the New Jersey Devils right out of the gate in the first round of the playoffs in what may promise to be some of the most exciting games in the postseason next week.
Daniel Jones; The Most Polarizing Player in Football?
It feels like everyone has an opinion on Daniel Jones. And for the most part, it’s not just a matter of a small opinion about how good he is. Simply put, people either love the man or hate him. He is the most polarizing player in football. It’s been...
What Next For Red Bull Fans Following Vanzeir Verdict?
The New York Red Bulls’ fan base is at the lowest point I’ve ever seen. The team’s form seven games in, having won only one game, isn’t even the main cause. Instead, Dante Vanzeir and head coach Gerhard Struber are the main culprits. The player’s now admitted racial outburst against the San Jose Earthquakes is a black mark in the team’s history. As of yesterday (Thursday), Vanzeir has been suspended six games by Major League Soccer. That also includes mandatory behavioral training and an undisclosed fine.
Dexter Lawrence and Saquon Barkley’s OTA Holdouts Will Mean Very Little Long-Term
In a matter of 24 hours, it was reported that 2 of the Giants best players, Saquon Barkley and Dexter Lawrence, will not be attending voluntary OTAs next week. While it is never good news to hear that 2 of your best players are pissed off enough to not report to voluntary OTAs, it will mean very little long-term. Saquon Barkley will have no choice but to sign his franchise tag tender, and Dexter Lawrence will become a very rich man, very soon. Arguably the Giants 2 best players on both sides of the ball may not be on the field in April, but they certainly will be come September.
MLS Next Pro paying off for NYCFC
Typically, most fans let alone pundits don’t get too excited about a contract signing of what amounts to be a substitute player. Still, NYCFC is charting new territory with their recent new contract with fullback Stephen Turnbull. As soccer becomes more and more of a mainstream professional sport in North America, the path to the MLS needs to be more clearly delineated with opportunities for advancement for players who display the talent to make it to the “big club.”
Red Bulls’ Dante Vanzeir Racial Accusation Stops Match Dead, New York Salvages 1-1 Draw vs San Jose
The New York Red Bulls’ match on Saturday night against the San Jose Earthquakes won’t be remembered well. The stoppage time goal by Tom Barlow, the latest ever in league history, secured the team a point. But the controversy involving a racial accusation that got that time added on will cast a long shadow.
Rangers look to the first round of the playoffs -who will they play?
Well, it’s that time of year when the NHL regular season winds down but now the fun begins -the Stanley Cup playoffs are only a week away. With the last games being played, the big question that Rangers’ fans need to ask is who the Blueshirts will play in the first round of the postseason?
NYCFC Match Preview: Atlanta United
Ah, to be back home again. NYCFC as a club must be thinking that right now as the Boys in Blue will finally be back on a home pitch in the Bronx this weekend against Atlanta United. Coming off a tough early-season road challenge, NYCFC reasonably acquitted themselves with a 1-1 draw against the Eastern Conference powerhouse New England Revolution last Saturday but face an equally daunting opponent this week at Yankee Stadium. If past numbers are any indication, NYCFC has won six home matches in a row going back to last season but the Five Stripes won’t come into the Bronx quietly nor does anyone expect them to leave quietly as well.
Giants-Bears 2021 Draft Day Trade Review
The New York Giants and the Chicago Bears have both had incredibly successful off season. Both teams are coming off of some depressing years of football, resulting in the Giants having top 10 picks in the draft for the majority of the last 10 years, and the Bears being stuck in mediocrity aside from the 2018 season. However, albeit in different ways, both teams truly set themselves up to be a force in their divisions for the foreseeable future.
Bruins – Devils game – foreshadowing Eastern Conference finals?
In case you haven’t heard, the NHL regular season isn’t quite over just yet and with a massive matchup between the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils being the marquee hockey game this weekend on television, maybe the folks at ESPN are a bit clairvoyant and just know who’s going to be in the Eastern Conference finals this spring. Of course, that might offend you if you’re a Rangers, Hurricanes, Lightning or Maple Leafs fan but a Bruins-Devils matchup late in the playoffs does sound intriguing.
