Chris Kreider: ready for an even better 2022-23?
When an NHL player finishes up the season with a career-high in goals scored and points and gets voted on to the All-Star team, that’s a great season and for Rangers left winger Chris Kreider, 2021-22 was the pinnacle of his tenth season with the Blueshirts. What can we expect of Kreider as the new season’s training camp is only two weeks away?
PREVIEW – Week 1: Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens – It Ain’t Over Yet
The New York Jets kick off their season this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens at MetLife. Joe Flacco, to the surprise of few and the passive disappointment of many, will be taking the lead as the starter quarterback to open week 1. Zach Wilson was always considered on the fence to make his debut in the first game. Now, the reports are saying that the earliest he can play is week four against the Steelers. Flacco, 37, appeared in two games last season – he completed 27 of 42 passes at 64.3% for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns with no picks.
A Weak Point of the 2021 Giants Defense Needs to Play Well Sunday in Order for the Giants to Win
Football is officially officially back. I say officially twice because although football has been back for over a month now, it is finally week 1. Tonight we see the Rams and Bills square off and Sunday is the first full slate of games for the 2022 season. Included in that slate is obviously the Giants traveling to Nashville to take on the Titans. It’s no secret that the Titans main weapon is Derrick Henry, and they are sure to use him as just that on Sunday. Henry has been the best back in the NFL over the last few years, and in order to stop him, or at least slow him down, the Giants need to overcome a weakness of their 2021 squad.
Rangers ready to say goodbye to Nils Lundkvist?
Ah yes, another NHL season is about to unfold and the Rangers are ready to hit the ice in training camp. I should say all of the Rangers with the exception of one defenseman – Nils Lundkvist. The details of this story line continue to unfold but it will be extremely unlikely that will we ever see Lundkvist wearing a Rangers sweater ever again.
Jimmy Vesey: Returning to the Blueshirts?
Some NHL players spend the majority of their careers luckily tied to one organization; however, many players feel like they’re more carnival workers and travel from town to town and team to team throughout the United States and Canada. For veteran winger Jimmy Vesey, the opportunity to return to the New York Rangers seems like a “welcome home” chance and this second opportunity may be a prudent move for both Vesey and the Rangers alike.
Let the Giants Football Season Begin!
The Giants begin their first Schoen-Daboll season this coming Sunday. While the roster tweaking continues, the Giants have amassed the fourth youngest team in the NFL. Coach Daboll stated Offensive Coordinator, Mike Kafka, will continue to be the play caller as he was during the preseason. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley begin the final seasons on their respective rookie contracts. So with all that said, are you ready?
Let’s Set The Record Straight On The AL MVP Debate
When it comes to the American League MVP race, there are only two contenders. Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. As of now, who deserves the award? Let’s find out. As a disclaimer, there is still about a month left in the regular season, so there is still enough time for the answer to that question to change.
Red Bulls Loss to Philly Overshadowed by Dru Yearwood Card
The New York Red Bulls’ loss, 2-0, to the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night won’t be remembered for the scoreline. The match against the Eastern Conference leaders made national headlines a Dru Yearwood red card incident in second half stoppage time. Overall, the whole situation is an ironic depiction of the team’s season so far in 2022.
Jets sign multiple players to Practice Squad
The last week of August is the cruelest week in the NFL for players as rosters have to be cut down from 80 to 53 players. Eliminating obvious talent and players who are on the “bubble” never is an easy job for a team front office and coaching staff but remember after all that the National Football League at its core is a business.
Top NHL Goalies heading into 2022-23 season
Arguably the toughest job in hockey is being a goaltender and when the netminder is on their A-game, they’re heroes; when they go into a slump, these players are blamed for all of the team’s woes. As the 2022-23 regular season fast approaches, it’s time to look at the “best of the best” goalies heading into training camp. Mind you, this is my list of top goaltenders and certainly a difference of opinion will be out there. There are other high caliber goalies in the NHL who help positively impact their teams each game but for brevity I’m focusing on what I consider to be the top five around in 2022-23.
Preseason Metro Division Rankings-where do the Rangers stand?
September is here and what does that mean for hockey fans? It’s mysteriously getting cooler in our minds regardless of the temperatures outside. NHL players are wrapping up summer vacations and getting ready to report to their respective training camps. Every sports outlet has come out and made their NHL power ranking predictions and in many cases the Rangers look to at least repeat their success from last season.
The Giants Release of Blake Martinez Creates Another Hole on Defense
In a shocking move yesterday, the Giants released starting inside linebacker Blake Martinez. In what was a move that has been described as a mutual decision, the Giants now have a hole smack dab in the middle of their defense. It has been said by many that Martinez never really fit in Wink Martindale’s defensive scheme, but losing a good football player like Martinez adds to an already massive concern in the Giants defense.
Tom Edwards; Talent At The Wrong Time for RBNY
After two seasons of confused flirting, the New York Red Bulls and Tom Edwards are heading in separate directions. The defender is heading to Barnsley F.C. in the third division of English football. He still remains with EFL Championship side Stoke City F.C., who have been loaning him out repeatedly since late 2020.
Is this the Year Saquon Barkley Returns to Fantasy Stardom?
Saquon Barkley is a polarizing name in the Giants community. Many have been down on Barkley for years because they feel it was a mistake to draft him in the first place. Others love him because he has represented his franchise well and when he stays healthy he is a great player. If anyone has read my stuff, I have said multiple times this offseason that the Giants should have been looking to trade Saquon this offseason and I am against resigning him after this year. Now, with that being said, I have also said that I very much believe this could be a big year for Saquon. That is a reason why I absolutely love Barkley in fantasy this year.
Tevin Coleman To Be Released – 53 Man Roster Starting To Flesh Out
The New York Jets have released veteran running back Tevin Coleman, cutting down the runningback room to Michael Carter, Breece Hall, and Ty Johnson. The draft capital invested in Hall made it clear from the jump that there were gonna be some cuts out of the backfield. Coleman was one of the pieces that came over from the 49ers when head coach Robert Saleh got the job in New York. They also cut running back La’Mical Perine, a fourth-round pick from 2020, a further move towards quality over quantity at the position.
Rangers 2022-23 preseason assessments
Labor Day weekend is fast approaching and for sports fans that usually means that college football is about to start, NFL training camp is winding down, the baseball season is entering the final stretch and for hockey fans, well the puck’s about to drop again on the ice. That’s right, the sweltering summer is about to give way to NHL teams hitting the ice once again for the upcoming 2022-23 season. The New York Rangers were so close to the Stanley Cup but alas no cigar -again. Last season the Rangers simply wanted to taste the postseason again and with their recent success, it would be a failure to aim for anything less than the Stanley Cup finals this year.
Anthony Rizzo Is Struggling, But It Shouldn’t Last Forever
The Yankees have had a lackluster month of August, and many important players have not performed up to standards. As of late, Anthony Rizzo has been a part of that group. However, there is some evidence to suggest that Rizzo has been unlucky this year as a whole and that he should see some positive regression. Let’s take a look at the numbers.
Rangers adding more signings in the offseason
Despite it being August on the calendar, there is no such thing as an “offseason” in professional sports and the New York Rangers front office stayed busy during the dog days of summer to sign additional players to the upcoming training camp roster. With the recent Rangers success in advancing to the Eastern Conference finals, brining in new players combined with contract extensions should help make sure that the Broadway Blueshirts stay competitive in the Metropolitan Division in 2022-23.
Stock Up-Stock Down: Who Helped or Hurt Their Cause as Cut Day Looms?
With the final NY Giants preseason game in the books what players helped their chances to make the 53-man roster and what players may have cemented their fate to be cut by Tuesday’s deadline? Let’s take a look at some players in each category. Stock Up ⇑. QB...
Jets finish preseason 3-0: no trophies yet
The New York Jets finished up the 2022 preseason with a perfect 3-0 record and it’s time to break out the champagne and celebrate, right? Not really since nobody gets a trophy for going undefeated in the preseason. Remember this fun fact: the 2008 Detroit Lions went undefeated in the preseason and yet finished the regular season at 0-16. The preseason is an evaluation tool and nothing more-don’t read into wins or losses until things become real on September 11th when the Jets square off against the Baltimore Ravens to open up the 2022 regular season.
