The MTA on Wednesday voted to delay the start of the $15 toll for drivers traveling south of 60th Street.

Congestion pricing had been scheduled to begin on June 30th, but Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced that it should be postponed because the extra cost for New Yorkers would hurt the city's recovery. The decision means the loss of $1 billion in annual revenue for the MTA, causing the agency to put a hold on major capital projects.

The vote came despite a protest outside MTA headquarters demanding that congestion pricing be implemented as scheduled. Demonstrators said the agency needs the money to make necessary upgrades.
