A heartless pet owner abandoned their 4-year-old dog on the side of a “treacherous” Long Island highway on Monday, authorities said.

Several drivers called police after spotting the poor pooch tied to a light pole on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 21 around 5:30 a.m, New York State Police Captain Timothy Gleason told The Post.

Responding troopers found the white mastiff, along with a note and a bowl of food, said Gleason.

“This is Roxi, a trained American bull mastiff,” the handwritten note said.

“She is four-years-old. She has been fed and given a flea bath, she may still have issues with them. See that she gets good care.”

Roxi — who had a calm demeanor as cops approached her — was taken to an animal shelter in Hempstead, where scores of dog lovers have already signed up hoping to adopt her.

“There is a big wait list,” Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin told reporters at a press conference Wednesday, according to News 12 Long Island.

“I will tell you right now. We probably had 25 people drive from the metro area to sign up just to start the review process,” he said as Roxi wagged her tongue.

Authorities said they are hunting for Roxi’s owner and may press charges once they’re caught.

“The Southern State Parkway is arguably one of our most traveled and treacherous highways on Long Island,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said in a statement.

“It is no place to abandon a four-year-old animal, and leaving a note with well-wishes just doesn’t cut it.”

Authorities are asking the owner or anyone with information on Roxi to call 631-756-3300.
