Two New York Dems locked in competitive races are backing Harris

Rep. Pat Ryan, the front-line New York Democrat who was one of about 30 House members previously calling on Joe Biden to withdraw, has endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

“Vice President Harris puts our Veterans first. Trump called my fellow servicemembers ‘suckers’ and ‘losers,’” Ryan, a combat veteran, posted on X . “The choice is clear, and the contrast is stark. Vice President Harris fights for freedom. Trump wants to take it away.”

Ryan is competing against Republican challenger Alison Esposito in the Hudson Valley.

None of the Democrats running in the Empire State’s six most competitive House races endorsed Harris immediately on Sunday.
However, on Monday morning John Avlon, a former CNN host challenging Republican Rep. Nick LaLota on Long Island, became the first of the six, with Ryan following suit this afternoon.

“Yesterday was a day for honoring President Joe Biden’s historic presidency and his selfless decision to step aside from this election,” Avlon said in a statement . “Today is the day to pass the torch to a new generation.”
