The Newark Catholic volleyball and Granville girls soccer teams received high seeds during the weekend’s Central District voting, but they will have a challenge to advance to regional play.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association expanded the postseason beginning this season, moving from four to seven divisions in volleyball and three to five divisions in both boys and girls soccer.

NC is the No. 2 seed in Division VI volleyball. The Green Wave, who host No. 10 Cardington on Oct. 16, could see No. 1 Pleasant in a district final at 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at Granville.

Granville is the No. 2 seed in Division III girls soccer and hosts either No. 5 Jonathan Alder or No. 10 Centennial on Oct. 17. The Blue Aces could see No. 1 Bloom-Carroll at 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at Whitehall in what would be a district final rematch.

Northridge is No. 3 seed in Division V girls soccer as the Vikings have won a program-record nine matches. The Vikings, who host No. 12 Wellington on Oct. 14, could eventually travel to No. 2 Grandview Heights  for a district semifinal on Oct. 22.

Granville is the No. 3 seed in Division II boys soccer. The Blue Aces, who will host either No. 12 Cristo Rey or No. 13 Buckeye Valley on Oct. 19, could host No. 4 Bishop Watterson and later meet No. 1 Jonathan Alder in their path to a district championship.

Watkins Memorial is the No. 4 seed in Division II girls soccer. The Warriors host No. 7 Canal Winchester on Oct. 17 with the winner possibly playing No. 3 Big Walnut in a district final a week later.

Northridge is the No. 4 seed in Division V volleyball. The Vikings host No. 9 Liberty Union on Oct. 15 with the winner meeting No. 5 Johnstown a week later in a district semifinal.

Newark is the No. 5 seed in Division I volleyball. The Wildcats host Upper Arlington on Oct. 22 with the winner advancing to a district final against possibly No. 7 Hilliard Bradley at 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Westerville Central.
