A portion of South College Avenue will once again have overnight closures this week to allow workers to install steel girders for the Interstate 95 interchange project.

All lanes of the road will be closed between the interchange and Old Baltimore Pike on Monday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Most of the interchange will be closed, except for the ramps from southbound I-95 to northbound South College Avenue and from southbound South College Avenue to northbound I-95.

There also will be associated lane closures each night on South College Avenue and Old Baltimore Pike approaching the work area.

The interchange project involves building new flyover ramps from southbound Del. 896 to northbound I-95 and from southbound I-95 to southbound Del. 896. The flyovers will increase the distance between exit and entrance ramps, reducing the traffic weaving that causes crashes at the current interchange.

The project also includes widening a one-mile stretch of the interstate to provide for longer acceleration and deceleration lanes, as well as upgraded lighting, rehabilitation of 10 existing bridges, the construction of six new bridges for the flyovers, and the construction of a walking and biking bridge over the interstate.

Work began last spring and will continue through 2026.
