A Wilmington woman was arrested after police found a handgun in her car during a traffic stop in Newark, authorities said.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. July 24 on East Chestnut Hill Road, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic offense and, while speaking to the driver, learned there was a gun in the vehicle. The officer searched the vehicle and found a handgun concealed under the driver's seat.

The driver, 26-year-old Summerit Davis, was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, along with traffic offenses. She was released on $2,600 unsecured bail.
