NEWARK, N.J. -- Nick DeSimone may have played only 11 games for the New Jersey Devils, but his performance was enough to warrant a new contract.

On June 24, President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that the team re-signed the 29-year-old defenseman to a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000.

New Jersey claimed DeSimone off waivers from the Calgary Flames on January 25, 2024. He made his Devils debut on March 14 against the Dallas Stars, earning one assist. In his next game, he scored his first goal in red and black against the Arizona Coyotes.

The East Amherst, NY native has appeared in 38 NHL games and has seven points (two goals, five assists). He appeared in 27 games with Calgary over two seasons before being claimed by New Jersey.

DeSimone went undrafted out of Union College and signed as a free agent with San Jose in March 2017. He began his professional career in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the San Jose Barracuda. He has appeared in 341 AHL games throughout his career, collecting 176 points (38 goals, 138 assists).

According to the official press release , his brother Phil played in the Devils system with Albany (AHL)/Trenton (ECHL) during the 2012-13 season.
