New Jersey's Luke Hughes Named to NHL's All-Rookie Team

On Thursday night, the NHL held its annual awards show in Las Vegas, a mere 24 hours before the Entry Draft on Friday night. The only member of the New Jersey Devils up for an award this season was rookie Luke Hughes, who finished third in the Calder Trophy race behind Connor Bedard and Brock Faber.

Despite missing out on his first career award, Hughes was selected for the NHL's All-Rookie Team, consisting of Bedard and Faber, plus Logan Cooley, Marco Rossi, and Pyotr Kochetkov.

Hughes became the first Devils rookie since defenseman Ty Smith in 2020-21 to receive the honor with his accomplishments.

Historically, the 20-year-old joins a list of former New Jersey skaters to be named to the All-Rookie Team, including:

At the NHL Awards show, the Hughes family didn't get shutout as Luke's brother Quinn, captain of the Vancouver Canucks, won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman.

Although all three Hughes brothers are still young in their careers, Quinn becomes the first to win a major NHL award, which should motivate Jack and Luke to win some hardware or be the first to claim the Stanley Cup.
