North Jersey saw a historically warm and dry June this past month as residents saw record high temperatures with little rainfall.

In the area around Newark Airport, June 2024 ranks as the second warmest June with data tracing back to 1931, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciennecki.

The heat wave North Jersey residents experienced in June contributed to this historic month. The warmest temperature observed in Newark was 100 degrees on June 21, which was first time Newark saw temperatures in the triple digits since August 2022.

In the area surrounding Teterboro Airport, the high temperature reached 90 degrees eight times, with the hottest day coming in at 97 degrees on June 26.

The average temperature in Newark this past month was 77.5 degrees which is about 4.8 degrees above normal for this time of year according to Ciennecki.
