During a family trip to the Hawaiian Islands, Lazar shared stories on his Instagram profile of him cage-diving off North Shore, Oahu.
In a July phone interview with The Hockey News , the 29-year-old shared that he was heading to Hawaii and clearly added some adventure to his rest and relaxation.
Cage diving is widely considered to be a very safe excursion. Participants in Oahu can observe Galapagos sharks and sandbar sharks, among others, from inside a protective cage made of metal or aluminum , depending on which company the excursion is booked through.
A quick Google search will confirm it is extremely rare for a human to sustain serious injuries as a result of cage diving. The few incidents on record involve Great White Sharks.
Great Whites are found in water with temperatures between 54 and 75 °F (12 and 24 °C), making them more likely to be around Hawaii during the colder months of the year. Still, they are considered rare in the waters surrounding Hawaii.
Per Hawaii.gov , "Tiger sharks are considered the most dangerous sharks in Hawaiian waters."
Lazar is coming off the best season of his career, where he collected a career-high 25 points in 71 games. He missed the final few games of the season with a shoulder injury.
During his end-of-season media availability , he shared that he would have been ready to play in mid-April, but the Devils' 2023-24 season had concluded.
He will report to training camp on Sept. 18 with the rest of the Devils veterans to prepare for the 2024-25 campaign.
