Early voting in the Delaware primary election begins next week.

This is the second election Delaware has offered early voting, which is common in many other states. While residents who can't make it to the polls on Election Day can request an absentee ballot, early voting allows them to cast a ballot using regular voting machines.

In New Castle County, early voting is available at six locations, including the Hudson State Service Center at 501 Ogletown Road in Newark, between Wawa and the post office.

Other locations include the Appoquinimink State Service Center, 122 Silver Lake Rd. in Middletown; Christina Crossing, 501 S. Walnut St. in Wilmington; Claymont Community Center, 3301 Green St. in Claymont; the Department of Elections Warehouse, New Castle, 220 Lisa Dr. in New Castle; and the Police Athletic League, 3707 N. Market St. in Wilmington.

Those eligible to vote in the primary can choose to vote at any of the locations. Early voting sites are open Aug. 28, Aug. 29, Aug. 30, Aug. 31 and Sept. 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., as well as Sept. 4, Sept. 5, Sept. 6, Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Election Day is Sept. 10, and polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Election Day, voters must vote at their assigned polling place.

Delaware has a closed primary, meaning voters must be registered with a party to vote in that party's primary.

Democrats will vote for representative in congress, governor, lieutenant governor, insurance commissioner, county executive and president of county council. There are also local state House races in Pike Creek's District 21 and Glasgow's District 27.

On the Republican side, there are primary races for representative in congress and governor.
