    Week ahead: Labor Day concert, Nun Run 5K, Cooch's Bridge memorial

    Labor Day concert: Sept. 2, 3 p.m., at White Clay Creek State Park’s Carpenter Recreation Area, 880 New London Road. Kategory 5 will perform as part of the park’s weekly summer concert series. Free, but park fees apply.

    Nun Run 5K: Sept. 7, 9 a.m., at Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road. 5K race helps support Little Sisters of the Poor. $35. For more info, visit www.nunrun5k.org.

    Cooch’s Bridge memorial: Sept. 7, 10 a.m., at Pencader Heritage Museum, 2029 Sunset Lake Road. The event marks the 247th anniversary of the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge. There will be re-enactments, historical presentations and demonstrations, and food will be available for purchase. A memorial service begins at noon. Free.

    Indiafest: Sept. 7, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Bob Carpenter Center, 631 S. College Ave. This event welcomes all ages and backgrounds to celebrate India’s rich heritage, traditions and culture. Highlights include diverse Indian cuisine, karaoke music, dance performances, engaging exhibits, cultural displays and an Indian bazaar with handicrafts, jewelry and clothing for sale. Admission $10

    Summer Band Jam Finale: Sept. 7, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Aetna Banquet Hall, 400 Ogletown Road. Six local bands — The Low Sundays, What Are the Odds?, After All, La Casa De, Abydo and Arkum — will compete. $10 admission. All ages.

    Ben Campbell Memorial 5K: Sept. 8, 9 a.m., at Newark High School, 750 E. Delaware Ave. Race honors Ben Campbell, a former Newark High quarterback who died in a crash last year. The proceeds will benefit a memorial scholarship fund. Registration $35 at fusionracetiming.com.

    Hero Day: Sept. 8, noon to 4 p.m., at Newark Charter High School, 200 McIntire Drive. The event marking Childhood Cancer Awareness Month will offer attendees a chance to donate blood, sign up for a bone marrow registry, donate hair to cancer patients and record messages of hope for kids fighting cancer. There will also be inflatables, face painting, superhero meets, visits with first responders and treats from local bakeries to sample. The Phillie Phanatic will be there between 12:30 and 1. Free.
